Introduction to Beekeeping for Beginners

Venue: Zoom, plus Apiary meets later in the season

Duration: 6 evenings; 7:30 - 9:30 pm

Two Hands on Apiary lessons

Monday or Wednesday evenings starting 8th March 2021, for six weeks.

Covid-19 guidelines will be adhered for a safe learning environment.On line Zoom facility will also be used for theory lessons.

Our course is intended for anybody who is thinking of starting beekeeping or for those who have started beekeeping and are looking after their first colony of bees.The course also includes the opportunity for hands on practice at the association’s apiary.Topics covered include; Beekeeping best practice, good hygiene practices, swarm management and disease recognition. Equipment needed for both bees and beekeeper.

This course includes associate membership and subsequent membership support, should you decide to join, will get you started in your new life as a Beekeeper

The evening classes run from; 7:30-9:30 pm; Zoom

Topics covered will include:-

  • Bee Biology and Life cycle
  • Beekeeping best practice, including hygiene, swarm management, and disease recognition
  • Beekeeping history, including the development of the modern hive and other hardware
  • Equipment needed for both bees and beekeeper
  • Honey extraction, jarring, and labelling, plus honey regulations (law)

Each beginner beekeeper who joins our association will be offered practical training and support.

N.B. The hands-on ‘Meet the Bees’ apiary session is weather dependent, so will be arranged accordingly.

Cost : £75.00 Including 1st year of Associate membership
